The Carolina Panthers are dealing with their franchise quarterback Cam Newton recovering from fractures in his lower back following a car crash that occurred in Charlotte, North Carolina five days ago.
Fox Sports Jay Glazer with the latest on the Cam Newton injury:
“I talked to his head coach Ron Rivera this morning and when he first came back, they gave him such a huge ovation. They already have him running on a treadmill underwater. Ron said they don’t know when he is coming back because of where those fractures are in his back, they have no idea how he’s going to respond when he torques.”
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Cam Newton’s readiness for the rest of the season:
“I’ve talked to Panthers sources last night, they are optimistic that Cam Newton will be back next week after suffering those two transverse process fractures, the same thing that Tony Romo had earlier in the season – he missed one week and was able to come back. At this point, everything is day-to-day of course because you don’t know how Cam Newton’s going to feel this week. But at this point, the Panthers think he will be back next week, as they try somehow to continue their march to the playoffs.”
