The excitement and the fan interest about the 2013 NFL season and the Super Bowl is now over, after the Seattle Seahawks smashed Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. However, the entire NFL world is now turned towards the offseason and all the potential moves and trades that it could involve. Let’s break down some of the best free-agents of the 2014 offseason.
Jimmy Graham
Of course, the best free-agent of the 2014 class is New Orleans Saints’ tight end Jimmy Graham. It will be a surprise to see the Saints letting Graham open the exit door and walk away, especially due to the fact that they can franchise tag him. However, he will certainly draw tons of interest from a bunch of teams around the league during free-agency. The Miami Dolphins seem like the strongest suitor for Graham at the moment.
Greg Hardy
Greg Hardy is the best pass rusher available in the market this offseason and the Carolina Panthers know that well. Hardy is young, just 25 years old and his performance was simply terrific last season. He recorded 15 sacks, setting a new career best. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly eyeing him and it won’t be a surprise to see the Bucs making a strong push for his acquisition. Hardy seems to be a perfect fit for Tampa Bay and he is projected to fill the Bucs’ holes on defense.
Brian Orakpo
Brian Orakpo is a top target for several teams around the league at the moment. The 27-year old outside linebacker impressed lots of people in the NFL with his performance last season, as he recorded 10 sacks. Orakpo is reportedly drawing much interest from the New York Giants and he would be an excellent fit for the team.
Jairus Byrd
Buffalo Bills’ safety Jairus Byrd is reportedly drawing much interest from the Denver Broncos. Denver obviously needs major upgrades on its defense, if it wants to have another good chance to compete against the Seattle Seahawks. Although Byrd seems like a perfect fit for the Broncos, Buffalo will most probably be eager to retain him for at least the next season. In fact, the Bills might even offer him a long-term deal. Byrd is certainly one of the top players available in the market this offseason.
T.J. Ward
Cleveland Browns’ safety T.J. Ward was arguably the best in his position last season. As a result, teams with defensive issues are targeting Ward and they are expected to pursue him hard during the offseason. The Chicago Bears are one of the top contenders for his talents.
Brent Grimes
He is 30 years old but he is still considered as the top cornerback free-agent available this offseason. That’s because he uplifted his performance last season, in comparison to his previous outputs. The Miami Dolphins might just use the franchise tag on him. But if they don’t and decide to let him go, Grimes could easily find a team that will offer him a big contract.
