Anthony Davis is no stranger to making big guarantees. At a summer USA Basketball event, he predicted that his New Orleans Pelicans would make the NBA playoffs this year (podcast here). We all doubted him at the time, but he came through; as did his team. New Orleans is in as the #8 slot in the Western Conference.
They’ll face the best team in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors in the first round.
He also referred to Beyonce as “his future wife.” (audio of this here)
Davis probably the best true center alive right now. The Pelicans big man is striving and thriving at a time when centers are going to the way of the Triceratops. Pretty soon we’ll all be playing EuroLeague ball where every seven-footer is a jump shooter. Davis was the only NBA player to average 2 blocks and 1.5 steals per game this season.
Charles Barkley on the domination of Anthony Davis today on media conference call: “Anthony is going to be best player in the world in the next three years when LeBron gets a little older. Anthony has a mismatch every night, and this will be huge against Golden State no matter who they put on him. I want to watch that.”
That’s another discussion for another time. Anthony Davis, a Chicago native who played for Charter Perspectives Academy and Mean Streets AAU, did a one-and-done year with the Kentucky Wildcats. In 2012, he pulled off the hat trick of all college basketball hat tricks.
Davis won the national player of the year award, the national title, and became the #1 overall pick in the NBA Draft.
We’re sure he was, at least half, joking about the second one. (I think Jay-Z would have something to say about that) As for the first one, New Orleans is just two games off as the pace to grab the Western Conference’s final playoff berth; as it stands today.
Now Anthony Davis is making another big guarantee, about his beloved Kentucky Wildcats. In a recent interview with redbull.com,NBA All-Star Anthony Davis says:
“The team who will win the NCAA tournament 2015 the one and only, best team in the world University of Kentucky Wildcats. That’s a guarantee. Kentucky Wildcats, bleed blue.”
In this clip below, Anthony Davis reminisces about his title-winning 2012 team at the University of Kentucky. he guarantees the current UK squad, which is ranked #1 in the country and sits undefeated at 15-0, will take the college basketball crown in 2015.
But until that happens, his college team has the only banner among the recent powerhouse teams at UK.
Also, if you want to know more about Anthony Davis, he turned 22 yesterday, and did another interview with Red Bull. It’s a rapid fire Q&A with a 24 second shot clock. In case you want to know how many times Anthony Davis checks Instagram on average per day:
