Perhaps my all time favorite LA Clippers joke comes from an obscure ’90s stand-up who’s name I can’t recall:
“a burglar will actually break into your house and leave you LA Clippers tickets.”
The LA Clippers have obviously gotten a lot better since those days, as they at least reach the NBA post season nowadays. Still they are the sad sack franchise of the NBA; and the league’s punchline. While they struggle with W-L record, they do dominate in social media.
NBA TV announced yesterday that the LA Clippers (@LAClippers) are the recipient of the “Fan Nation” Award for social media during 2012-13 NBA season. The “Lob City” duo of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin expanded the team’s social profile this season with shared video, photos and other content across social media.
Los Angeles seems to have this social media thing pretty well figured out. The LA Kings are BY FAR the most interesting and entertaining official Twitter account in all of professional sports; not just hockey. And the LA Clippers are winning awards.
The “Fan Nation” Award is the only award that will be presented prior to NBA TV’s telecast of the NBA Social Media Awards airing Wednesday at 7 CDT. And hey, the LA Clippers are finally finishing first in something.
