Chicago Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts issued the following statement on behalf of the organization in regards to the passing of Chicago White Sox legend Minnie Minoso:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Minnie Minoso,” said Ricketts. “Having recently lost one of our all-time greats Ernie Banks, we share the heartache with the White Sox organization and fans everywhere who were blessed to enjoy the talent, heart and passion of Mr. White Sox. He will be forever known as an electric offensive player and great ambassador for the game of baseball.”
Minnie Minoso is one of the “Mt. Rushmore” players in White Sox history. He has his number retired, a statue at The Cell, and numerous club records. He also is the oldest player in Major League history to hit safely. He reached in base in more decades than any player in MLB history.
In short, Minnie Minoso was and always will be a really big deal. And the Cubs acknowledge his impact; just like they formally acknowledged the 2005 White Sox world championship.
