The Chicago Cubs just released their list of non-roster invites to spring training, and uber-prospect Albert Almora headlines the list. 2015 was the breakthrough year for a whole host of Cubs super-prospects, and 2016 will be about seeing whether these players can avoid the dreaded sophomore slump or not. (Here’s the link to the Spring training schedule, broadcast times and key dates)
Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler, Javy Baez, Addison Russell- these are all guys we’ve been talking about and anticipating for years ahead of their arrival onto the big league club.
Is Albert Almora next in 2016? Probably more like 2017 as non roster invites are usually long shots to make the parent club.
Position players report Tuesday, February 23 with pitchers reporting on the 19th. The following 10 pitchers have been invited to major league camp: right-handers Stephen Fife, Brandon Gomes, Jean Machi,Felix Pena, Jonathan Pettibone, Armando Rivero, Drew Rucinski and Duane Underwood.
lefties Luis Cruz and Jack Leathersich.
infielders: Jesus Guzman, Munenori Kawasaki and Kristopher Negron.
outfielders: Albert Almora, John Andreoli and Juan Perez.

Almora, the sixth overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, will be one to watch this spring training season. You’ll also want to check out our key Cubs storylines to watch in spring training, of which Albert Almora will definitely be one.
