Michigan State and Michigan basketball fans obviously butt heads a lot. (Ditto for football, hockey and every other sport). It’s a very heated rivalry to say the least. Michigan basketball fans tastelessly defacing the Magic Johnson statue in the week leading up to the football game between the two schools is the latest classic example.
However, tomorrow will see Michigan State and Michigan basketball fans comes together in unison for a much bigger cause than hoops.
On Saturday, February 6th, UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization has commissioned a plane to fly over the Crisler Center with the message: SNYDER POISONED KIDS IN FLINT @ULTRAVIOLET.
The plane banner is meant to draw attention to the continuing lead crisis in Flint, and that Governor Snyder knowingly let Flint families drink poisoned water. UltraViolet argues that Governor Snyder should resign immediately over this gross violation of the public trust.
The water crisis in Flint has made national headlines all week, and rightfully so, as this is a humanitarian emergency. The Governor has been asleep at the switch and desperately needs to be called out for this gross negligence and egregious malfeasance.
Water will be the new oil, if it isn’t already as we enter a brave new world stricken by the disastrous effects of serious climate change. The top visionaries in commodity investing are already focused on water, what does that tell you?
A statement from UltraViolet reads:
“Governor Snyder knew that Flint’s water was poisoned for at least a year. He shipped in bottled water for state employees, all while ignoring the concerns of Flint’s worried, mostly poor and Black, residents. His actions have resulted in more than ten thousand children and pregnant women being exposed to dangerously toxic levels of lead that will cause severe brain, nervous system and liver damage that will haunt them for the rest of their lives” explained Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet. “It is time that all Michigan residents – Spartans and Wolverines alike – stand up and demand that Governor Snyder resign immediately.”
