The Louis van Gaal backlash has been so strong for so long right now that speculation about his future overshadows everything else going on with the club. With no clear signal and instead just overall noise right now about which direction Manchester United will go regarding their managerial future, we’re all looking for indicators anywhere we can find them.

The Jose Mourinho narrative has been dominant since December.

One outlet, Spanish publication AS, is taking it up a notch by claiming United will actually release an official statement after the match introducing Mourinho as the new manager. AS, who claims Mourinho will sign a three year deal regardless of today’s result, writes:

The Old Trafford hierarchy is expected to issue a statement following today’s FA Cup final between Louis van Gaal’s side and Crystal Palace.

Negotiations between Ed Woodward, the Premier League club’s executive vice-president, and Jorge Mendes, the 53-year-old’s agent, took place weeks ago; however, some uncertainty about the appointment still lingered within the Red Devils’ board room. Nonetheless, the conclusion was eventually made that irrespective of today’s result at Wembley, Van Gaal’s tenure has come to an end.

Over the course of this season, quite a few tabloids have claimed that Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford is/was a done deal, and that Louis van Gaal is out the door. Of course, it never happened each and all of those times that it was claimed. Maybe this time it’s different? We’ll have to wait until after the match to see.

So that’s where we are now on the Van Gaal and Mourinho situation. Nothing is definitive, as of yet, but a lot of people think it’s going to happen, and it might even happen later tonight.
