Cliff Alexander is rated the #3 prospect in all of college basketball. As the big man from Curie high school in Chicago was telling the world where he was going to take his talents on television, he first picked up an Illini hat and said, “After careful consideration, I have decided to continue my education at the University of… Kansas.”
We’ll just ignore the fact that the school he chose is actually called Kansas University..
…and not University of Kansas. Also, the only school he had left among his final four to pick from that is named “University of…..is University of Illinois!
So clearly this was a calculated tease on the part of Cliff Alexander.
Not such a nice thing to do consider how much Illinois fans were welcoming him with open arms. Even cheering for him at two Illini home games this year.
It’s not bad enough that Cliff Alexander, who’s Twitter handle is ironically entitled @humblekid11 held a Lebron James style decision TV special to decide where he would ball. Alexander also had to make a classless, taunting gesture at the most pivotal moment of it for good measure.
YOU STAY CLASSY! Cliff Alexander.
His quote in the Chicago Tribune, explaining why he did what he did: “It’s something my teammates thought I should do.”
Real mature.
How did Illini nation take it? Well this video with NSFW language sums up the sentiment quite nicely.
