Sexual assault joke made by LA Kings Twitter Account

An unfortunate, off-color sexual assault joke was tweeted on the LA Kings Twitter account tonight.

Most official sports teams Twitter accounts are very dry and dull. And/or overly positive all the time. The LA Kings Twitter account is an exception. At times it can be quite funny, snarky and irreverent. Unfortunately, the LA Kings went a little too far by letting Kevin Ryder, of the Kevin and Bean show on KROQ Los Angeles, live Tweet the LA Kings vs. San Jose Sharks Stanley Cup playoff game.

Ryder took over during the second period of Tuesday night’s game.

He made an unfunny joke in bad taste about sexual assault. The LA Kings deleted the Tweet and quickly an apology.

The now deleted Tweet said:

“Galiardi gets a penalty for running over Quick. Power play Kings. Kopitar just got sexually assaulted in front of Niemi.- @TheKevinRyder”

And the LA Kings retraction:

We apologize for the tweets that came from a guest of our organization. They were inappropriate and do not reflect the LA Kings.

This incident isn’t a laughing matter, but it is a bit funny to look further down the LA Kings Twitter timeline as see they made a joke which accurately foreshadowed this:

.@thekevinryder is taking over @lakings for the 2nd period…. we’ve made a huge mistake.

Yep. Maybe they saw this coming.

(Update: what’s with California sports personas tweeting about rape/sexual assault today?? Jose Canseco crossed the line from laughable to downright scary today on Twitter)
