NHL Network Analyst Jamal Mayers earned himself a Stanley Cup championship ring with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013. It was his final season in the NHL, ending a career that spanned 15 years and four other teams in addition to the Blackhawks.
Mayers was one of a few former Blackhawks who took part in a celebrity hockey game for “Unite on the Ice” last night. The evening of celebrity hockey and open skate activities benefited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Blackhawks Ambassador and hockey Hall of Famer Denis Savard coached the game. 2002 NHL All-Star game MVP Eric Daze played in it.
“Unite on the Ice” kicks off the winter festival leading into the Hockey City Classic at Soldier Field this Saturday. The HCC is the college version of the Winter Classic with the alma mater of Jamal Mayers (Western Michigan) taking on Miami of Ohio in the opener.
Michigan State and Michigan will meet in the nightcap. But this exclusive was all about the Hawks. Have a listen, the discussion begins with some Teuvo time talk.
