Tottenham Hotspur full back Kyle Walker says Manager Mauricio Pochettino has made the perfect team. He clearly means a perfect side for the club, and/or the perfect team of these specific individuals. The defender believes that they can all come together and do something special.
Spurs crashed out of UEFA Champions League early, and hence find themselves in Europa League. They host Gent Thursday, having fallen down 1-0 in the away leg of the round of 32 tie.
Tottenham are also in the quarterfinal round of the FA Cup, where they will take on League One side Millwall. Kyle Walker and company are far out of the Premier League title race, but they’re still holding down one of the last top four slots, one point ahead of Liverpool. They’re currently in third place, tied in points but +2 on fourth place Arsenal.
Walker extolled the virtues of Pochettino:
“He’s a great manager, he thinks about us as players and individuals,” said Walker. “We’re quite happy to go and voice our opinion. If we’re a bit tired he says, ‘okay today is a bit of a down-day for you’.
“The culture [is the biggest change at the club],” Walker continued. “When I first came in, it was all, ‘We might get Champions League, we might not’.
“But now we’ve turned that corner and we want more. Last season, even though it was disappointing, it was a big learning curve. I feel the team we have now is perfect. We’ve got the players and the manager to go and do something special.
“When I first signed, I said I wanted to win trophies and I want to do that here before my time is up. To finish above Arsenal would be fantastic, but we’re not worried about them.”
