Tottenham Hotspur phenom Dele Alli is the breakout star for Spurs this campaign. One of his goals is a no doubt front-runner for scoring strike of the year.  Alli looks like a future cornerstone, a not for sale at any price kind of player like Harry Kane has become.

Lately though, Alli has not looked like himself. You can see that he’s just not been quite right. Alli has been in and out of the lineup as Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino has managed his fitness and well-being.

And now the Spurs boss has revealed what’s up, shocking us all- Dele Alli has been playing through not one but two injuries. He’s hurting in both his ankle and his knee.

The Spurs boss said: “He is an incredible athlete, yes. But he is not a machine. He has a problem in his ankle and knee. He was good before the game but the players are not a machine.”

“Will I rotate him? It depends. We assess the players every day and we take the best decision for the team. We try to look after everything,” Pochettino continued.

“We played a lot of games and we come from a difficult season because we played a lot. But I think we have good staff, good sports science and medical who can look after the players in a good way.”

“I don’t know about him lacking energy. He looked fresh. Maybe we expect from him to run more than 14km in every game. I think he was one of the best players. He showed energy and character.”

Pochettino said this mostly to call off the dogs who have ripping Dele Alli lately. He’s obviously playing through pain so the Spurs boss is asking for people to cut him some slack. According to today’s edition of the Daily Mirror “Tottenham star Dele Alli is on a special fitness programme to prevent burnout as he battles ankle and knee problems.”
