Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho said this past summer that he’s open to a move to Old Trafford. His potential transfer fee has been rated in the £30 to £37 million range. Manchester United and Arsenal seem to be the two front-runners in the race.
Speaking before Sporting Lisbon’s crutch Champions League tie with Chelsea,ITV reports Sporting Manager Marco Silva as saying: “William is a target for English teams, but I want him to play his game.”
“He’s not playing at the same level as last season because last season he was a surprise, but he’s improving. William has many offers. Let’s wait till January.”
The Daily Express have suggested that United Manager Louis Van Gaal will use current Sporting loanee Nani as bait to secure a part-exchange deal for the 22-year-old to finally solve the club’s central midfielder issues. (h/t ESPN FC)
The Daily Mail claimed that United have held talks with Sporting about William Carvalho, as the Portuguese club dropped their asking price down to £23.8 million. Carvalho could be a contingency plan/fall back option since United will never finally close Arturo Vidal from Juventus.
