Both Manager Jose Mourinho and forward Wayne Rooney responded to their detractors this week. The Special One answered his critics by referring to them as “football Einsteins.” Rooney reacted to those deriding him by saying that their criticism of him is just rubbish.
Mourinho’s argument seemed a lot more convincing than Rooney’s. A recent Manchester United fan poll found that 99% of respondents wanted Rooney dropped from the first team. That didn’t happen in the midweek EFL Cup clash and we’re predicting it won’t happen Saturday versus defending champions Leicester City either.
You know those match individual player ratings? Wayne Rooney has been drawing a lot of 3/10s and 4/10s in those this season. However, he doesn’t see a lot of merit or legitimacy in all the bad things people are saying about him. Here’s the full quote; really scintillating and insightful conversation indeed. *sarcasm font*
“I think I’ve had that [criticism] my whole career — a little bit more of late, I think, but that’s football,” Rooney told United’s website on Thursday.
“I listen to my coaches and my teammates, the people around me, and I don’t really listen to what a lot of people out there are saying because a lot of it is rubbish.”
“I have to focus, work hard, of course, and I’ve done that throughout my career. I’ve worked hard and tried to do my best for the team.”
