The Manchester United Starting XI for tonight’s EFL Cup third round clash against Northampton has been posted by the club’s Twitter account. The much maligned, and at this point embattled Wayne Rooney remains in the first team. A poll conducted by a United fanzine following the upset loss to Watford on Sunday showed that 99% of respondents wanted Rooney removed.
Perhaps that will come on Saturday on When United take on defending champions Leicester City in league play.
After all this is the EFL Cup; which is a time to rest some of your starters and play some of your bench guys. Of course, we can’t really predict now what Mourinho will do in the next fixture with Wayne Rooney but the fact that he’s starting tonight might actually be good news for those who want him on the bench.
Samuel Luckhurst, of the Manchester Evening News, seems to agree with our line of reasoning on this one.
