Manchester United are looking to stop Chelsea from grabbing Wayne Rooney by offering the star striker a brand new contract. The Telegraph seems to be the one who broke this story first.
The current contract of Wayne Rooney expires in June 2015 and United wants to lock him up before his contract year ends. Chelsea failed with two offers earlier this summer, but if they make another go at Wayne Rooney, third time a charm?
Rooney is well liked at Old Trafford, despite his being disgruntled and unhappy with current situation at the start of Premier League. The fact that he didn’t celebrate a goal in the opening match didn’t help much either.
However, David Moyes wants to make it know that Wayne is very much a key component in his future plans.
A United source commented on the Rooney situation,
“There is no rush to talk about a new contract but let’s say if, in January, there is a conversation and we could lock him in well into his thirties then we would do that.”
Wayne Rooney is currently 27, and the new deal being offered by the Red Devil would likely keep him around into his 30s.
