Earlier this month The Sun reported that Manchester United was offering Wilfried Zaha and 7 million pounds to Everton in exchange for left-back Leighton Baines. Now it looks like United will finally land Baines, with their attempt being the charm.
Yes, as the January transfer window approaches, rumors surrounding Old Trafford are heating up. David Moyes once again targets Leighton Baines, who he missed out on signing during the summer.
According to the Daily Mirror, via Fox Soccer:
Manchester United will make it third time lucky by landing Leighton Baines for £16million in the January transfer window.
Overall, it was a very quiet summer transfer window for United, and the Moyes regime change subsequently began with a very rough start. However, that win over first place Arsenal was huge. Perhaps that turns things abround?
Moyes has coveted Leighton Baines ever since he left Everton to lead United. However, his former club is refusing to sell.
However, by the time the winter January transfer window gets here Moyes is confident that he can use his connections with his former employer to get a deal done. The conventional wisdom is that Leighton Baines would be Patrice Evra’s long-term successor.
