New Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal was “unveiled” today with his first ever press conference as leader at Old Trafford. Of the numerous storylines that accompanied LVG’s arrival, the lead headline is actually bad news.
Midfielder Michael Carrick will miss 10-12 weeks after ankle surgery.
“Michael Carrick has had surgery this morning on his left ankle ligaments and will be out for 10-12 weeks,” the club tweeted. Van Gaal didn’t elaborate much on the injury and recovery process. Only saying that Carrick would be out “a long time.”
Obviously, he’ll miss the entire preseason exhibition tour in the United States, as well as the first the 6 weeks of the Premier League season; at minimum. This now emphasizes the need for United to acquire a midfielder in the summer transfer market. Best of luck to Carrick in his recovery.
