Holland coach Louis van Gaal is set to be confirmed as Manchester United boss next week – with Patrick Kluivert as his assistant, says the Daily Mirror. The formal introduction should come by Wednesday at the latest. He’s supposed to be given a war chest of 150 million pounds to work with this summer, and his top transfer targets are Marco Reus, Toni Kroos and Luke Shaw.
However, there’s also plenty of drama and conflict, both internal and external, before he’s even formally appointed the gig.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano has risked opening up a rift with Louis van Gaal even before he is confirmed as Manchester United manager. Van Gaal has come under attack from the chief executive of Manchester City over his abrasive management style, says The Times.
Well, there’s a way to spice up the local rivalry even more!
Then there’s some possible internal strife too. Wayne Rooney believed the captaincy was now his for the taking, but he’s worried the new Dutch Coach will instead favor his fellow country man Robin van Persie.
Perhaps that explains why Rooney has been so vocal in supporting Ryan Giggs to be the full time manager. And The Guardian claims Manchester United have been warned that Louis van Gaal could clash with senior players if made manager.
