Manchester United have had a really yawn-inducing January transfer window this far. With just two weeks and change left before the window closes, it’s hard to imagine Old Trafford pulling out a blockbuster deal or two. Maybe they’ll make a minor move here and there, but we’ll see.
One rumor that never goes away is Gareth Bale. Yes, despite how ridiculously unrealistic it is. Today’s news of the Real Madrid transfer ban just makes it even more far-fetched.
Former United star David May probably said best when he proclaimed that Gareth Bale would never join Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United “in a million years.”
‘You hear it every day where Bale is coming or Cristiano Ronaldo is coming back and I realise they have to sell newspapers but never in a million years is it going to happen,’ May exclusively told 888sport.com.
‘Don’t get me wrong I would love Gareth Bale to come to Old Trafford. But is it going to happen? I can’t see it. Not right now.
‘Top players always want to play in the Champions League and if United do miss out will Bale come to United?
‘It becomes a huge burden if United don’t get in the Champions League.’
Just out from under United’s clutches, some people believe, Bale transferred to Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur for a world-record fee of £86 million in 2013. The Frenchman stressed this spring that Los Blancos will not consider selling anywhere this summer.
Now that Zidane is the guy in charge, and that Real Madrid have been slapped with a transfer ban, and hence unable to replace the Welsh Winger if they sold him, now you really know that Gareth Bale to Old Trafford is not going to happen.
