Manchester United have released their official squad list for the first half of the Premier League season. When you look at the names on the list, you see a couple surprises, the biggest of all being Bastian Schweinsteiger (more on that over at this link)
Here’s the full squad, as posted on the official Premier League website.
Full squad: Eric Bailly, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick, Matteo Darmian, David De Gea, Memphis Depay, Sadiq El-Fitouri, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sam Johsntone, Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba, Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero, Wayne Rooney, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young
Under-21 players: Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw
When you look at roster conveyed in this manner, you notice two first regulars, and essentially three major stars in the under 21s- Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw. It appropriately conveys how bright the future is at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are certainly in “win now mode,” as they always are.
Given that their most expensive summer transfer window ever just ended yesterday, obviously short term expectations are sky high. (Goes it without saying, expectations are always sky high at the theater of dreams) However, the official league roster for the first half of the season also shows the talented youth that United have.
Perhaps a title is indeed in the cards for Jose Mourinho this season. If not, it’s certainly not too far down the line for United.
