Liverpool have had a very busy and productive summer transfer window. The Reds have signed plenty of new players, and are to a decent start on the young season. Although they landed many of their targets this summer, one player they won’t get is a youngster who struggled to acquire playing time with Los Blancos: Asier Illarramendi.
The 24-year-old has decided to return to his boyhood club, Real Sociedad. So score one for David Moyes.
Brendan Rodgers has accomplished an awful lot this transfer window, but you can always find a place for Illarramendi, a dominant force in midfield, with great passing range and the ability to transition defense into the attack quite quickly. Well, it didn’t happen at Real Madrid however. They didn’t find a place for him.
Illarramendi, 25, signed for Los Blancos from Sociedad in 2013 but his future at the club under new coach Rafa Benitez has been the subject of conjecture.
