The Daniel Sturridge dance, it’s the craze that’s sweeping the nation. Many nations, actually. Italy defeated England 2-1 in the opening World Cup game for the two Group D powers. #ITA scored first in the 35th minute. Andrea Pirlo let the ball run back to Claudio Marchisio, who fired past the England defense.
Two minutes later, Three Lions equalized. A perfect pass from Raheem Sterling set Wayne Rooney free, and he delivered a perfect cross to Daniel Sturridge, who had a nice easy conversion.
So you had some Liverpool to Manchester United to Liverpool chemistry on that play. Bitter rivals in club play; teammates and cohorts for country.
Here’s the video:
Sterling had the first scoring chance for England in this game, but he was just wide left. Rooney had a solid opportunity in the 62nd minute, but hit the post. He also gave us one of the worst corner kicks in World Cup history in the 77th minute.
“Super Mario” Balotelli headed in the game winner in the 50th minute.
But back to Daniel Sturridge, here’s the video of his trademark celebratory dance.
