It’s Husky vs. Husker.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers will face Northern Illinois at Memorial Stadium in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023, as changes to the Big Ten Conference schedule have forced the schools to make adjustments to the series originally agreed upon at the end of last year.
The Big Ten recently went to a nine game schedule. Sept. 16, 2017 the NIU Huskies will travel to Lincoln for the third time in school history, and the first time since Sept. 8, 1990. The Huskers and Huskies will meet again Sept. 14, 2019, Sept. 4, 2021, Sept. 16, 2023. All four games will be played at Memorial Stadium. The Nebraska Cornhuskers are unfortunately not coming to Northern Illinois.
Originally, the series between NIU and Nebraska consisted of three games, beginning with a Northern Illinois home game with the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sept. 24, 2016.
The Huskies are looking into other options for future Soldier Field games, said Deputy Athletic Director Christian Spears, who worked with Nebraska Cornhuskers to extend the series.
“The Big Ten schedule necessitated these changes, and we are happy that the Nebraska Cornhuskers will remain on the Huskie football schedule going forward,” Spears said.
