New Northwestern football landscape evaluated by ESPN pundits

So where does Northwestern football go now? For the receivers, your big playmakers need to be Mike McHugh and Cameron Dickerson. I know, right? Totally underwhelming. Actually, it will be Tony Jones and Kyle Prater. And as you know it’s been all hype and little production from Prater. Replacing Mark will Justin Jackson (Pat Fitzgerald hates burning a kid’s shirt, but he has to) backing up the feature back Trayvon Green.

Here’s ESPN’s Jesse Palmer and David Pollack discussing how NU football moves on from this latest saga. I joined them on media conference call yesterday to get an overall outlook on where the season could be headed.

Here’s the podcast, notice they seem to agree with me that Ohio State game has ended up being a turning point in the history of Northwestern football. It was truly a crossroads game for the program, they could have been headed in one direction, and now they’re headed in a different direction:

And in my segment this week on 1620 The ZONE “Game Time with Nick Bahe“ we talked about the  Venric Mark scandal, the Christian Jones injury, and moving forward for Northwestern Football moves forward now in the wake of all this. Bahe posed the question to me, has the window really closed for Northwestern football for the time being?

I say yes. If you have a purple heart right now, you got to be thinking 5-7 in your best case scenario, with this tougher schedule. And with the issues arising with recruiting, I’m not sure I see those 8 or 9 win seasons coming back any time soon.
