Kentucky Wildcats superfan Ashley Judd not running for U.S. Senate

A fixture at all big Kentucky Wildcats college basketball games, famous actress Ashley Judd is a UK superfan. Now the photogenic actress was to be taking up another activity, away from acting. However some Democrats saw it differently. Ashley Judd was still be a partisan in blue; just Democratic Party blue, and not Kentucky Wildcats blue.

Ashley Judd is no longer running and gunning for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s seat in 2014. Talking Points Memo with more:

In a story published Monday in The Daily Beast, Jonathan Miller wrote that the “most egregious disinformation” about Judd and her would-be candidacy “came from entirely anonymous sources” and helped create an unfavorable narrative. Before she announced last week that she will not run in 2014, reports suggested that Judd told a group of supporters at a private dinner, “I have been raped twice, so I think I can handle Mitch McConnell.” Miller, who attended that dinner, said he “never heard her say anything remotely like that.”

He also highlighted the recent suggestions that former President Bill Clinton had lobbied against a Judd candidacy in the hopes of getting Kentucky’s Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes to run instead

Ashley Judd wouldn’t be the first actor to have a successful political career. Ronald Reagan is hailed as a demigod by Republicans and conservatives in this country. The Democratic primaries, raising money and giving speeches should all be no problem for Ashley Judd. She has poise in public speaking, brand name recognition and a stellar reputation for philanthropy.
It’s the general election which would have stopped Ashley Judd from reaching Capitol Hill anyway. McConnell is as inside-the-beltway as it gets; and when you match a veteran of the political game up against a rookie like Ashley Judd…results may vary, but not often goo. Politically, the state of Kentucky is red like a Bobby Knight sweater and social conservative voters might not like the fact that Ashley Judd has shown off her body in multiple movies during the 1990s.
