The NCAA and the New Orleans Local Organizing Committee today unveiled the logo for the greatest weekend of college basketball, 2012 edition.
The 2012 NCAA Final Four, 74th championship in the event’s history will be played for the fifth time at New Orleans’ Superdome.
New Orleans has a long history of hosting the men’s basketball championship. 2012 will mark the 70th anniversary of the first time the city served as host. Tulane University’s Fogelman Arena was the site of the 1942 Eastern Regional. The university will serve as host again this time.
This Final Four will be the 13th time the championship will come to New Orleans, including the third consecutive year championship rounds have been held in the Crescent City.
The city hosted regionals in 1942, 1981 and 1990 and will host the Southeast Regional in March. New Orleans was a first- and second-round host in 1999, 2001, 2007 and 2010, and it hosted the Final Four in 1982, 1987, 1993 and 2003.
