Tommy Tremble: Notre Dame TE the Latest “Baby Gronk”

“Back in high school, I loved playing defense. They wouldn’t let me play defense and made me play offense. But, honestly, I just love contact. It’s pure passion for me. Every time I’m out on the field, I want to be dominant, and I try my best to.”

#7 Notre Dame vs USF Game Preview, Stats, Spread, Moneyline

notre dame football

When the University of South Florida visit #7 Notre Dame on Saturday, it’ll be game filled with familiarities. USF rookie head coach Jeff Scott was Clemson’s co-offensive coordinator from 2015-2019. While calling plays for the Tigers, he oversaw an offense that made the College Football Playoff every year; winning the national championship in 2016 and 2018.

You might recall the Cotton Bowl semifinal in the latter year. Scott’s offensive coordinator is likely the only coordinator younger than Notre Dame’s Tommy Rees in all of Division 1 football. Charlie Weis Jr., 27, is the youngest on the staff and in certain circles considered a coaching prodigy.

The 2020 season, one that will feature Atlantic Coast Conference opponents only, kicks off for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish when the Duke Blue Devils come to South Bend on Saturday. Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said a little less than a month ago that ND’s familiarity with their 2020 opponents will work to their advantage.

“We have a great deal of respect for the opponents we’ve played in the ACC,” Kelly said shortly after training camp began. “They’re well coached. There are different systems, both on offense and defense, you’re going to get a variety.”

With Lou Holtz being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, days after the University of Notre Dame publicly distanced themselves from the man, we present Holtz’s story at ND, in three parts.

“Our faith inspires our use of reason, and our reason sharpens our understanding of faith. Together, they both serve in the search for truth…a Catholic university rejects a faith that trumps all claims of reason, and rejections a rationalism that preempts all claims of faith.

2020 Notre Dame Football Season Preview: Defense

2019 for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish ended on a high note. The team finished the season 11-2 with a dominant 33-9 victory over Iowa State in the Camping World Bowl, and ranked 11th and 12th respectively in the final AP and Coaches polls.

The 2020 season for Notre Dame will be a strange one. The peculiarity of only 20% capacity being allowed in to the stadium, the mandatory face coverings and social distancing guidelines required for the lucky few in attendance and the lack of tailgating on campus this autumn will pale in comparison to Notre Dame joining a conference for the first time in 42 years. 2020 will be the year of coronavirus and the Fighting Irish of the ACC.
