The police department in Irving, Texas has been quite busy with the Josh Brent intoxication manslaughter case that killed former teammate Jerry Brown. Now word is he was driving at “burying the needle” speeds before the tragic crash that killed his friend. The blood alcohol concentration of Josh Brent was made public weeks ago, and back then we learned of the absurd amount of alcohol that a man of his size would have to consume in order to reach the BAC. But now we know that Brent was not just drunk, but driving like we was trying to qualify for the Daytona 500.
Dallas Cowboys practice squad lineman Jerry Brown is dead; and Josh Brent is allegedly to blame. The two were also college football teammates; former Illini. Brent’s speeding car flipped the curb, and Brown died in the wreck. Josh Brent served time for a DUI before the 2009 season at Illinois but was allowed to play that season.
He came to Illinois a very highly rated recruit by Ron Zook, but his off-the-field issues cut his college football career short. Still he caught on in the NFL, starting for Dallas in a few games this season.
According to information obtained by local affiliate NBC 5, Josh Brent, who survived the wreck, was driving at least 110 mph, and possibly as much as 134 mph, before the wreck. Police have already said that Brent’s blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
And another haunting twist in the story previously made public- Brown was alive after the crash and reached out to Brent to be saved. And Brent did not.
