Zlatan Ibrahimovic Suffers Ligament Damage, Ruled Out Until January

(UPDATE: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suffered serious ligament damage in his knee, which will require surgery, and he’s ruled out until January 2018, according to ESPN FC)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic may have played his final game with Manchester United having suffered a serious knee injury that was initially reported as a hyperextension. He is now ruled out for the rest of the season, and that’s crushing on many different levels. The Europa League final is in Ibrahimovic’s home town in Sweden, and now there is no way he’ll be able to play in it.

With his Old Trafford future still up in the air, and other clubs (including both Los Angeles Major League Soccer clubs) looking to pony up major dough in order to procure his services, last night might have been the final time that we got to see him in a red shirt.

Breaking news – Zlatan expected to miss remainder of season because of knee injury.

That tweet is from a Sky Sports and TalkSPORT news reporter. United Manager Jose Mourinho met the media to preview the Burnley match (video of the session available at this link), and this is what he had to say:

“Now we need absolutely everyone.”

“We are in trouble. In this moment, Eric Bailly has played six matches in a row, and we have lost Rojo, we don’t have Jones or Smalling, we are in trouble and now we lose Zlatan too.”

“But in attack, we have options. Rooney is coming, and let’s see if Mata can also return before the end of the season. Let’s see what happens.”
