Following tonight’s loss (and yielding of first place in the AL Central) to the Minnesota Twins, the Chicago White Sox optioned infielder Dayan Viciedo to Class AAA Charlotte.

So “Cuba Libre!” is called off; for the time being at least. This move is obviously to make room for Mark Teahen, the versatile infielder who has been out since late May with a fractured finger. He’s expected to be activated from the disabled list on Friday. This second move has not been officially announced but will be sometime prior to tomorrow’s game vs. Detroit.

Viciedo, 21, hit .268 (22-82) with three home runs and seven RBI in 27 games with the White Sox this season. He still has not drawn a walk in his major league career. Yes, you read that correctly, in 82 at bats, he failed to record a bases on balls. So expect Sox Minor League Hitting Coordinator Jeff Manto to work with Viciedo on his plate discipline.

Viciedo appeared in 62 games with the Knights prior to his promotion to Chicago, going 69-238 (.290) with 14 doubles, 14 home runs and 34 RBI.

Teahen, who went on the 15 Day DL May 31st, is hitting with a fractured right middle finger is hitting .255, with 3 HR, 14 RB, 16 R and 3 SB.
