Chelsea went to the Etihad and kept their winning streak going with a resounding 3-1 win at Manchester City. The Blues are now 8-0 in their last eight Premier League fixtures with a 22-2 goal differential in that span. Chelsea remains a top the table and now find themselves four points clear of Man City.
Chelsea versus Manchester City was the headliner fixture in the Premier League this weekend, but it was unfortunately marred by an ugly brawl, which both managers discussed in the postgame press conference.
You can read in full what both Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola had to say about it at this link.
Now on to more pleasant topics- the Chelsea boss talked about what it meant to face off, and defeat Guardiola, the man who is considered one of the brightest minds in all of football. This was the first time the two had squared off against each other.
“It was a good experience,” Conte said of the clash.
“This was the first game against Pep and I’m pleased to win, and also I think to be a bit lucky in this game. I’m pleased because Manchester City is a really good team with great players and a good idea of football.”
On the other side, the focus of the Pep Guardiola presser was the officiating. Pep refused to criticize the referees.
“We didn’t win because we missed a lot of chances not because of the referee. Never in my life in seven years [have I criticised a referee] … or maybe a few times, but I respect them.”
“It is just a game. I have to understand this is England. I didn’t come here to change absolutely anything. I know the way you live. I am just here to understand I need time to understand the decisions.”
The Italian won this round, but there will no doubt be many more battles of tremendous significance between these two.
