Manchester United Manager Louis Van Gaal says he will not make any panic buys as the clock winds down on the summer transfer window. The club decided they weren’t all in for Pedro and Nicolas Otamendi after all, so the former went to Chelsea and the latter to Manchester City.

They put all their central defender eggs in the Sergio Ramos basket, and that obviously didn’t work out, so who would be a “panic buy” at this point for Van Gaal ‘s side?

“We want to improve, but at our way, not at the way that people are saying. When we buy it has to be a contribution to our selection and not against any price,” Van Gaal is quoted in the Manchester Evening News.

“I go with the squad because we have 28 players and I have said already that we now have a better selection.

“You can see my selection and you can see for every position we have a double. We don’t have to change, but when we can improve we shall do that, but only in our way and not in the way you are writing.

“You have to wait and see. It is not any pressure for me.”

There are only two positions of obvious need right now- central defense and striker. Van Gaal doesn’t publicly acknowledge that they need a striker though. At this point, it’s hard to name a player at that position who would fit the term “panic buy.” As for a central defender, well, I guess they won’t be going after Everton’s John Stones then.
