Marcos Rojo has been down this road before; having problems when it comes to getting his paperwork in order. His debut with Manchester United last season was delayed to his work permit issues. The Defender didn’t join the team until after a couple regular season games had already been played in 2013-14.
This year, he’ll miss the club’s entire preseason tour of America. According to the Daily Mail, Marcos Rojo is set to be fined £140,000 – two weeks’ wages – after passport issues meant he was not able to link up with the Old Trafford club during their tour of the United States.
Rojo, along with his teammate for club and country Angel Di Maria, missed their flight to join up with the club this past weekend. Di Maria and Rojo were on extended leave due to Argentina reaching the title game of the Copa America. Di Maria’s missing his flight is seemingly related to his probably inevitable move to Paris St. Germain.
While Marcos Rojo, on the other hand, didn’t board his plane due to the aforementioned passport problems. Last summer, a discrepancy with Rojo’s passport meant that he had to visit the Argentine embassy in Madrid before he receiving clearance to play. Manager Louis van Gaal blamed the Argentinian laws for Rojo’s absence at the time; as they caused the delay in obtaining Rojo’s work permit.
