The University of Wisconsin-Madison will simulate a terrorist bombing at Camp Randall Stadium early Thursday morning. Yes, the home of Wisconsin Badgers football will take on a more important role this week- a training ground for first responders.

“Operation Wisconsin Dawn” will be a massive drill complete with explosive sound effects, billowing smoke and pretend victims — to test their emergency preparedness plan involving everyone from police and fire squads to hospital emergency departments and the FBI.

So it’s time go look at Ohio State and Michigan, and ask

“Hey, what is ‘The Shoe’ doing to help our national security?”

or

“Yo, ‘Big House’ stop slacking and help prepare us against ISIS and Al-Qaeda.”

Operation Wisconsin Dawn will be a full-scale exercise. Some of the participating agencies include the Madison Fire and Police Departments, Dane County Sheriff Office and Emergency Management, Department of Justice, FBI, US Attorney’s Office, UW Hospital, and Meriter Hospital. More than 400 people are expected to participate in this real-life simulation of an emergency at Camp Randall Stadium.

Planning began over a year ago, and it’s the first time the University’s emergency response capacity will be tested at this level.
