Chicago Bears Draft Major Wright With Their First Pick

With their first pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears drafted Major Wright, a free safety out of the University of Florida.

They didn’t trade up, but were still able to address their main need, safety, by getting one of the top safeties on the board. He is a free safety that can jump in and start immediately. This, honestly, is out of necessity for the Bears, but he has the ability to be an immediate contributor at the NFL level as well.

He is a ball hawk who isn’t afraid of contact, but has at times had trouble in coverage, both in zones and in one-on-one.

This would make him identical to every other Bear defensive back, so why not?

Still, he has the physical tools to be a great safety in the NFL — and he won’t be asked to be in one-on-one coverage EVERY down in the NFL, so that still doesn’t mean he can’t be a productive NFL player.
