It’s been rough for both the Boston Celtics and the Butler Bulldog since Brad Stevens jumped from Indianapolis to The Garden. It was expected that Stevens and the Celts would struggle. They kind of imploded the team last NBA Draft night, and we all knew a massive rebuild was coming.
We didn’t think Butler would decline as far and fast as they did though once Brad Stevens bolted for the NBA. The Bulldogs got promoted to the Big East quickly, after being promoted to the Atlantic 10 from the Horizon League; and Brad Stevens is the main reason for that.
As spring is the season of rebirth and renewed optimism, and graduation is a time of looking forward and planning ahead for the best, let’s watch Boston Celtics Head Coach Brad Stevens address the Class of 2014 at Butler University’s Spring Commencement. Let’s remember the two national title games that little mid-major Butler came to under Brad Stevens and think about better times ahead, for both Boston and BU.
Brad Stevens told the BU graduates to be “energy givers, not energy takers,” to not let circumstances control their attitudes, and to figure out what’s important to getting a task accomplished, then practice it daily.
“The magic is in the work,” he said.
