“Players First: Coaching from the Inside Out,” is Coach Cal’s new book that you’ve heard about incessantly. John Calipari’s new tome has been HEAVILY PUBLICIZED as Coach Cal is on the junket of all junkets! (I know, “junket” is a term reserved for film, not books, but you get the idea) Talk about “making the media rounds!”Calipari has been on TV more than John Clayton and Ellen DeGeneres combined.
His Stephen Colbert sit down on The Colbert Report was highly entertaining, as there were plenty of jokes about “one and done” versus “succeed and proceed” and now “two and tootle-loo.”
Coach Cal did a good job of subtly pointing out some of the NCAA college basketball hypocrisy, without saying anything that got himself into too much trouble. Colbert, a Northwestern graduate, also asked Coach Cal his opinion on college athlete unionizing, as today is the big vote on whether to unionize. NU college football players will make history one way or another.
However, the best part of the clip is when Colbert brings up the horribly racist and terribly offensive interview that Bill O’Reilly did with John Calipari. Colbert’s whole bit is somewhat based on lampooning O’Reilly; whose arrogance and egocentrism is out of this world. “Poppa Bear” as Colbert calls O’Reilly seems to think Coach Cal’s players are about as thuggish ruggish as it gets. Which we all know is about as far from the truth as possible.
