Rex Grossman turns down Browns; has Xmas plans with in-laws

Your next Cleveland Browns starting quarterback?

Not Rex Grossman. Christmas plans with the in-laws was more important than leading the Brownies in their final garbage time game of the 2014 NFL season. Rex Grossman would literally go kite-surfing over the Yuletide than collect a week’s pay from Cleveland.

Look at this tweet:

#Browns called Rex Grossman about joining team for one week but sides couldn’t work out logistics. Grossman has whole family in for holiday

Grossman will miss what has been reported to be between $50-60,000 for this gig, because he’s in Palm Beach with his extended family. He’s been spotted kite-surfing.

How did this happen? Why would Cleveland relegated to a scrub who hasn’t thrown a pass in a NFL game since 2011?

First the Browns cut Brandon Weeden, a failed first-round pick in 2012 who desperately wanted out in the preseason. After dismissing that total bust, they also cut ties with Jason Campbell. As for quarterbacks who were actually on the roster in 2014, Johnny Manziel has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Brian Hoyer is suffering through a shoulder injury.

Should Hoyer not be able to go, undrafted rookie free agent Connor Shaw, out of South Carolina, will get the start against the Baltimore Ravens.

Kyle Shanahan and Rex Grossman have history, that’s why it was thought that Sexy Rexy might make Cleveland rock on Sunday. It would have been funny to hear Cleveland say “Rex Grossman is our quarterback.” He was in camp during the preseason, but ended up being cut.
