Colin Kaepernick on dealing with his haters

I’m not a Colin Kaepernick hater, but I’m firmly entrenched in the “Colin Kaepernick is overrated” camp. I’m probably even a camp counselor there. I never did any Kaepernicking, I think he’s a fluke, flash-in-the-pan that NFL Defensive Coordinators are now solving. I think Colin Kaepernick is a one-year wonder, product of the read-option gimmick. He’s a trend force fed to us by pop culture.

I also think he went a little too far with the tattoo needle, and I applaud McDonald’s for making Colin Kaepernick cover up his sleeves in order to that commercial.

However, there’s been a big difference between not liking/not caring for Kaepernick versus sending him hate tweets.

In an exclusive interview airing tonight on Football Night in America, Colin sat down with Tony Dungy.

Colin Kaepernick on Coach Harbaugh yelling at him:

“My rookie year we had a couple of rough days. There was one day, I don’t remember exactly what I was doing. There was something I wasn’t doing quite right, quite how he wanted me to, and he just went off. He has a little fire to him and he doesn’t really snap and go off on players so when he did that, I’m really messing up. For him to go off like this in front of everybody, it’s bad.”

Colin Kaepernick on his Twitter following and criticism:

“It lets you know that there are people that still think you aren’t where you should be. It’s kind of like what Coach Harbaugh tells us sometimes: ‘When people start talking really good about you, that’s when you need to be worried.’ I think from the time I was young, I’ve had a lot of people tell me I can’t do things so that’s a reminder that I’ve been through this before, and I’ve been successful going through it before.”

Colin Kaepernick and the 2-2 49ers take on the Houston Texans tonight on NBC. Kaepernick’s numbers aren’t terrible, but they’re not fantastic either. S.F. is 27th in the league in passing though; so one understands why he’s taking so much heat.
