Manchester United Starting XI Prediction vs Liverpool (FA Cup 4th Round)

Manchester United have only three fitness concerns heading into the weekend, when they’ll host Liverpool in the FA Cup 4th round. Only one of those players (Victor Lindelof) is a first teamer, and the other two are fringe players. That means United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could do some squad rotation on Sunday.

He doesn’t seem to name the same team in back to back games, so in looking at the team that won at Fulham on Wednesday, here’s what we think we’ll see against the rival Reds.

Man United Team News vs Liverpool (FA Cup): Lindelof, Williams, Jones

Manchester United will next take on arch-rival Liverpool, for the second time in a week, at Old Trafford on Sunday. Last Sunday saw the two sides play to a goalless draw in the Premier League, and now they’re squaring off in the fourth round of the FA Cup competition.

United seem to be catching their rivals at the right time. Tonight saw the Reds lose at home to Burnley, and this is the first time they fell at home since 2017, a span of time that covered 68 matches and nearly 1,400 days. Also, Liverpool haven’t scored in Premier League play in close to 450 minutes.

Paul Pogba Encourages Manchester United Teammates to “be arrogant”

The last time Manchester United were top of the table, past the mid-point of the season, they won the Premier League title in 2013. Following another come from behind win on the road, this time at Fulham FC, midfielder Paul Pogba spoke to the club website and encouraged his team to be “arrogant” and keep up the effort.

Pogba is a huge reason why United are title contending, for the first time in eight years. We’ve seen a big change in attitude, and it’s for the better. He’s realized that he’s better off not being a diva, and he’s benefited from having more star players around him now at Old Trafford. He doesn’t have to be the main focus, or the best player on the team right now, and we’re starting to see him look more like the player he was at Juventus.

virgil van dijk

Liverpool FC will soon kick-off against Burnley (team news, starting XI, match preview at this link), but ahead of the match manager Jurgen Klopp gave an injury update on Virgil van Dijk. The all-world central defender, arguably the Reds best and most important player, is still rehabbing from knee surgery.

A nasty tackle from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford took him out earlier this season, and it is thought that he won’t return this term. However, it certainly sounds like the Dutchman is doing well in his rehab and might even be ahead of schedule at this point. Klopp didn’t get specific, but he did provide some insight.
