Ryan Giggs is well know to the Manchester United family, having played 962 matches for the club. He’s a icon; and member of the famed Class of ’92. However, the United Media Relations professional still called Giggsy by the wrong name during his first press conference as caretaker manager.
The team spokesperson accidentally referred to Ryan Giggs as “David” by mistake. In reference to David Moyes, obviously. I guess it’s just a force of habit.
As you know Moyes was sacked on Tuesday morning, lasting just 10 months of a six year contract. Ryan Giggs took the mistaken identity in stride and laughed it off; as you can see from the video below. Later, when asked whether he would make himself available for selection for the team, Giggs joked: “I’ve just given myself a new five-year contract.”
It was nice to see a light-hearted, fun presser, because there were rumors for quite awhile that Ryan Giggs and David Moyes had a falling out. There was allegedly some tension between the two. No traces of that at all in the media session here.
