Manchester United’s chances of landing Ilkay Gundogan just shot way up with the news that Borussia Dortmund are showing interest in United’s Shinji Kagawa. The Japanese international won successive Bundesliga titles with Dortmund before moving to the Red Devils for £16million in 2012, but he was someone recruited by Sir Alex Ferguson, who hasn’t gelled with David Moyes.
It’s getting very likely that Kagawa could be heading back to Germany, according to the Daily Mirror.
“If the German club firm up their interest in Kagawa then United will look to use him as a makeweight in a deal that involves Ilkay Gundogan or Marco Reus.”
That’s at the top Moyes wish list for the summer transfer window; with Ilkay Gundogan the much more likely deal to be closed than Reus. Obviously, there’s a lot of interest in another Bundesliga target Toni Kroos as well. Nothing is set yet, but the interest of Dortmund in Kagawa really opens things up and will make talks a lot more fruitful.
