Robin van Persie contract extension with United? Moyes thinks so

It was earlier reported that Manchester United striker Robin van Persie was willing to leave a huge £10m loyalty bonus on the table in order to exit the reigning Premier League champions at the end of the season. Not so now, as Manager David Moyes says Robin van Persie is not only staying, but looking for an extension at Old Trafford.

Perhaps we should have believed Moyes when he disputed the reports that RVP is unsettled and looking to leave.

The Dutchman came to United in August 2012 as a £24m transfer from arch-rivals Arsenal. He had a great debut season, but has had an injury riddled campaign this year. He flourished under Sir Alex Ferguson, but is floundering under Moyes; even when healthy.

However, Robin van Persie himself has said he’s happy and content.

A delighted Moyes added via BBC Sport: “He has a couple of years on his contract and I’m sure that (an extension) is something the board will look at.”

Although Van Persie’s declaration that he is happy at the club comes as a boost, Moyes knows his own future will be under scrutiny if United lose on Sunday against Liverpool. That is the rivalry of all rivalries. So Moyes must bring it.
