Records fell left and right. The 2012 Rose Bowl set a new record for most points scored in a quarter, half and entire game. The Wisconsin Badgers saw their tailback Montee Ball tie the college football record for most TDs in a season.

The UW quarterback, Russell Wilson set a new season mark for passer rating. But it still wasn’t enough as the Oregon Ducks won their first Rose Bowl in 95 years, 45-38.

The offenses were as hot as the weather; as this was the sixth warmest Rose Bowl in the 98 year history of the game.

Ultimate Rose Bowl Preview Guide: Oregon vs. Wisconsin

Update: new links!

The 98th Rose Bowl takes place at 2 pm PT. Should be a shootout, and as good a college football game as any you’ll see this year. Lots of points- the over/under (again just for recreational purposes) is 72.

And the passer rating record will likely fall in this game too. (More on that here)

So here’s everything you need to know about the “Grand Daddy of them All,” created and produced with the WIFI at “Grand Daddy’s Lounge” in downtown Los Angeles.

Rose Bowl Preview: Oregon Ducks Have Weapons to Win Shootout

Is the third time a charm for Chip Kelly and his Oregon Ducks? Will the 2012 Rose Bowl end differently than last year’s national title game and the 2010 Rose Bowl?

The knock on Kelly’s Ducks is that if you get an entire month to prepare for them, then stopping the 3rd in the nation in total yards Quack Attack isn’t so difficult.

However, the Ducks are 6 point favorites in this game. And this is the first year of the Pac-12 Championship game, so the layoff this year is significantly shorter. They are the school to have a current three game BCS streak.

Wisconsin Badgers’ New Rose Bowl Uniforms (Photos)

Yesterday saw the unveiling of the special edition Adidas college football uniforms that the Wisconsin Badgers will wear for the 98th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 2.

The new look is inspired by the grand old tradition of the Rose Bowl and the school’s back-to-back trips to “the Granddaddy of them all.” The white and red uniform features a “Battle Rose” design, including rose petal graphics within the jersey numbers, Motion W helmet logo and stripes, adidas TechFit compression base layer and adizero gloves.

Rose Bowl Preview: #10 Wisconsin Can and Will Hang With #5 Oregon

For the second consecutive year, the Wisconsin Badgers find themselves representing the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl. However, this time around, they get a Pac-12 powerhouse in Oregon instead of a pesky TCU squad who proved to be too much in an upset in Pasadena.

The battle between the Badgers (11-2) and Ducks (11-2) is one of the most intriguing match-ups of the bowl season, particularly because the two teams are so much alike. The game will feature two of the most potent offenses in the country and both teams seem to be playing their best football right now. [Read more…]

Wisconsin Smells the Roses With 42-39 Win Over the Spartans (Rapid Reaction)

For the second consecutive year, the Wisconsin Badgers are headed back to Pasadena to represent the Big Ten in the BCS Rose Bowl. The inaugural Big Ten Championship and 42-39 win over the Michigan State Spartans was a game for the ages.

It included a ton of offense (816 total yards), multiple lead changes (three to be exact) and a questionable play at the end of the game (did Badgers punter Brad Nortman flop?).

Badgers J.J. Watt Wins 2010 Lott Impact Trophy

Best senior quarterback (Scott Tolzien and 2010 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award), best offensive lineman (Gabe Carimi and 2010 Outland Trophy Award) and now the best defensive player in the country as the Badgers’ defensive end J.J. Watt was named the 2010 Lott Impact Trophy Award Winner on Sunday Night.

Watt has had a monster year while accumulating 21 tackles for loss, seven sacks, eight passes broken up, ten quarterback hurries and three blocked kicks.

The other three finalists for the Lott Impact award were Texas defensive lineman Sam Acho, Oregon linebacker Casey Matthews (Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews brother) and LSU cornerback Patrick Patterson.

University of Wisconsin Newspaper Calls Out Student Rose Bowl Profiteering

rose bowl

Ah, the supposed “free market,” where one can quickly turn a profit without making or doing anything. And in this case, a profit of 400%!

Ticket scalpers are perhaps the greatest example of making obscene profit without actually producing or contributing anything of worth. And there’s nothing wrong with making money in this, our system of “pure competition,” (cough cough). But have you seriously ever met anyone who worked for Stub Hub that wasn’t a socially retarded douchebag?

When it comes to college football, perhaps the situation is a little different. Most college kids are piss poor, swimming in debt, and will soon experience the joy of post-graduation job-hunting in the Second Great Depression (thank you banking crisis of 2008!). So we should cut them a little slack.

Then again, the Wisconsin Badgers in the Rose Bowl, is still the Wisconsin Badgers in the freaking Rose Bowl. So whether you find this practice to be just capitalism in action or true holiday season extortion, you’ll find the Badger Herald’s reporting of the secondary Rose Bowl ticket market amusing.

Wisconsin Badgers Are Rose Bowl Bound

With a 70-23 trouncing of the Northwestern Wildcats, the Rose Bowl committee has seen enough. They should and most likely will invite the Wisconsin Badgers to the 2011 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.

An invitation would mark the Badgers’ first trip to the elite New Year’s Day Bowl since beating Stanford 17-9 in the 2000 Rose Bowl. Ironically enough, the Badgers may face off with #6 Stanford who appear to be a legitimate at-large option for a BCS bowl this season.
