#65 Wichita State Shockers: College Basketball 111 in 111

shockers cheerleaders

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s third annual college basketball season preview series.  Two years we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  Last year, we were slightly more aggressive and expanded to 111 teams in 111 days and will do so again as we look ahead to the 2012-2013 season.

We will rank the 75 power conference teams and top 36 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, transfers, incoming freshmen, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

The Wichita State Shockers lose all five starters from last year’s team which won 27 games and earned a five seed in the NCAA Tournament.  While there is plenty of turnover on the roster, Greg Marshall’s team should still be in the mix of the Missouri Valley Conference race.

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

Wichita State cut down the nets last season… the NIT nets.  The Shockers return a solid core from that team and should be one of the favorites in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Maui Invitational logo

Break out the Hawaiian shirts…  The Maui Invitational always seems to be the cream of the Thanksgiving tournament crop and this year is no different as three top fifteen teams headline the field including second ranked Michigan State and the once again young, but talented Kentucky Wildcats.

The Invite will expand to 12 teams next season featuring 23 games, 11 of which are played on the mainland.  The 2011 field is more loaded than a frat boy at 2:00 am on Saturday night with Duke, Kansas, Georgetown, Memphis, Tennessee, and UCLA already committed to play.  Here is a breakdown of the 2010 match-ups:

99 in 99: #46 Wichita State Shockers

wichita state shockers

Despite making the Sweet 16 last season and winning back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference titles, Northern Iowa will not be the favorite this season.  That distinction belongs to Wichita State who only loses one key player from a year ago.

The Sports Bank’s “99 in 99” ranks the 72 power conference college basketball teams and top 27 mid-majors.  Click here if you missed teams #47-#99.
