How Does Wesley Matthews Fit with the Blazers?

With the Utah Jazz signing veteran shooting guard Raja Bell to a three-year deal on Wednesday, it appears as if Wesley Matthews’ short tenure in Salt Lake City has come to an end.  The former Marquette standout signed a 5-year, $33.4 million offer sheet with Portland this past weekend and according to multiple reports, the Jazz will not match the contract making Matthews the newest member of the Blazers.  While I am thrilled that the Madison native earned a big-time payday, I am not sure how he is going to fit with his new team.

Marquette’s Wesley Matthews Establishes Himself in the League

For every college basketball player hoping to continue their career at the next level, hearing their name called at the NBA Draft is a dream come true.  On June 25, 2009, sixty names were read at the podium in Madison Square Garden, but Wesley Matthews’ was not one of them.  Some things in life are a blessing in disguise and for the former Marquette star, this was certainly the case.

Marquette Basketball All-Decade Team

Since I was a freshman at the fine Jesuit institution known as Marquette University, I have lived and died Marquette basketball to the point that I am absolutely obnoxious when watching the Golden Eagles play.  I pace around like a father-to-be in the waiting room of the hospital while his wife is giving labor.  I am superstitious, curse like a sailor, and bust out one of the best loud claps of all time during while watching MU play.  I am crabby when they lose and rarely ever satisfied when they win, and I love every minute of it.
