Vikings Cut Donovan McNabb: New Chicago Bears QB?

donovan-mcnabb

Is it time for embattled QB Donovan McNabb to come home? The Chicago product from Mt. Carmel high school has always drawn an excessive amount of criticism, and in my opinion not always deservedly so. He has over a 60% career completion rate and he doesn’t traditionally throw a lot of interceptions.

And only four current NFL Hall-of-Famers have a passer rating higher than McNabb’s that’s your fun fact of the day. (The four are Steve Young, Joe Montana, Otto Graham and Len Dawson)

To quote another Chicagoan, Kanye West, in his guest rap on the song “Talk About Our Love,”

“Now you went field running plays like Donovan McNabb before you get in the cab.”

Of course, that song was recorded in 2004, and 7 years ago McNabb had game enough to be quoted in rap lyrics. He isn’t that good today.

Vikings Pick Wrong Time to Start Christian Ponder

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Donovan McNabb certainly hasn’t set the NFL on fire so far this season. His quarterback rating in the low eighties is not up to the expectations of the organization or the fans. His completion rate of over sixty percent is a little misleading because he has only thrown for around a thousand yards.

Because of the aforementioned data, head coach Leslie Frazier has decided to allow Christian Ponder to take snaps behind center this season. I don’t have a problem with removing McNabb from the situation, but it is certainly a peculiar time to do so. Two of the next three games are against the storied Green Bay Packers.

Brett Favre Impersonator on the Loose at Green Bay Packer Practice

Brett Favre’s people claim he hasn’t been in Green Bay since the Minnesota Vikings played there last season. Even though Favre is no longer in the tiny hamlet where he made his legend with the Packers, a reasonable facsimile is. Or perhaps not such a reasonable facsimile, you can tell him apart from the ole text message slinger, but some of Green Bay’s dumber football fans cannot.

The unidentified Fake Favre has been seen in the stands at Packer practices posing for pictures with fans.

Uhm yeah, why would the real Favre be randomly sitting in the stands at practice? Don’t you think he’d have the connections with the club to be in a more secure, exclusive location?

Better Options Were Available at Quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings

The consensus on national media outlets seems to be that the Vikings hit a home run in their acquisition of Donovan McNabb. Much of the reaction to all the transactions has been positive because there is a collective sigh of relief that they are relevant once again. Chris Mortenson and John Clayton obviously grew tiresome of commenting on the court proceedings.

The 2011 Minnesota Vikings Starting Quarterback is…

There isn’t really a sense in denying the fact that the 2010 NFL season has been an apocolypse for the Minnesota Vikings. After being mere seconds away from a game winning field goal attempt in the NFC Championship Game last January, the downward spiral of the team has been swift and painful.  The explanation for the demise is so multi-faceted that it would be more productive to shove your face into your computer monitor and then spend the next 24 hours tediously putting the screen back together by hand. Instead, let’s look forward at what can be different.

(note: this is being re-run from December 5th, it’s very topical today with that whole McNabb thing)

Analyzing More Quarterback Options for the Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf obviously has his hands full with the situation concerning Mall of America Field. It is not too early, however, to start analyze possibilities at the quarterback position.

We started this exploratory process over a month ago, and you can read our preliminary findings here.

Now, with more evidence coming to light, we continue our potential QB assessment.

Joe Webb has proven thus far that he is extremely talented athletically, but raw. His decision-making ability has been suspect at best. Interim head coach Leslie Frazier is dealing with the game of out, doubtful, or probable with Brett Favre on a weekly basis. This is obviously not a recipe for long term success.

Patrick Herbert is here to give you some options for the club in the offseason.

(note this is begin re-run from December 26th)
