#93 UCF Knights: College Basketball 111 in 111

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s third annual college basketball season preview series.  Two years we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  Last year, we were slightly more aggressive and expanded to 111 teams in 111 days and will do so again as we look ahead to the 2012-2013 season.

We will rank the 75 power conference teams and top 36 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, transfers, incoming freshmen, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

The Central Florida Knights have fallen on hard times as of late.  With the recent ruling by the NCAA which bans UCF from post-season play due to major recruiting violations, Donnie Jones has seen three players leave the program including Marcus Jordan.  As a result, the Knights dropped from 49th to 93rd in my rankings.

Michael Jordan’s Son Jeff Jordan Leaves UCF Program

Michael Jordan’s son and former Illini point guard Jeff Jordan is done with UCF college basketball, the school announced in a statement late Saturday.

“We wish Jeff nothing but the best in the future,” UCF head coach Donnie Jones said in the UCF athletics news release. “We appreciate his contributions to our program and he will always be a member of the UCF basketball family.”

No specific reason was given for why Jordan left the team. Given that he’s a senior, and has zero pro potential, this is probably the last we’ll hear about him in a high profile hoops sense.

Jordan’s younger brother, Marcus Jordan, the one who’s way better at basketball will stay on the team; where he is the Knights’ leading scorer.
